The Ruinenlust series explores the space between the rich and expanding histories of abandoned ghost towns, cathedrals and cities and the spacial entities they represent today. Drawing into consideration the textural/architectural element, these paintings evoke the crumbling, deteriorating nature of these locations through layered, translucent strokes of paint and gritty application of acrylic paste. The series also looks at the shapes and elements these spaces take on both within and outside their historical context, exploring the abstraction of a space once pivotal signifiers of these locations are removed overtime.
